Since 2004, PennyPeople.com has been a favourite destination for those who love high quality paper, with a little bit of a fun twist. How Penny People Designs Began Penny People Designs was established in 2004 by designer Lindsay Stephenson. The company was born out of a love of paper, design, business, and all things "personalized". Lindsay grew up receiving handwritten letters from her Grandmother which she cherished, and from a young age appreciated the time and thoughtfulness in hand-written letters. Her combination of the love of receiving and writting letters, combined with her art & design knowledge is the basis behind Penny People Designs. ![]() What's the meaning behind our company name, Penny People™? The company is named after the customizable characters that you see on PennyPeople.com. Penny People™ Characters were first drawn on a desk in 1990 at John Fisher Public School in Toronto by (then student) Lindsay Stephenson. Lindsay pulled out a penny, placed it on her desk, and circled it and then proceeded to put two eyes, and a mouth in the circle. Lindsay enjoyed this simple character so much that she continued circling pennies and putting faces on them from that day forward. As Lindsay grew up and matured, so did Penny People™ characters, and soon pennies were no longer needed. The characters developed from a simple round head with two eyes and a mouth, to characters with fuller cheeks, necks, and personalities. Although Pennies are no longer used, they are still called Penny People™ characters because of this story. Because of the long relationship that Lindsay had with the characters, from the age of 11 to now, it was fitting to name her company after the Characters that were so close to her. |
